If there is a place in America where you can find cheap hotels, it’s Las Vegas. And not only are the hotels cheap, they are also really good value for money. No wonder travel agencies often offer you two nights in Vegas on your roadtrip.
When we started our search for a place to stay at in ‘Sin City’, we found hotels that offered us a stay for a mere 25 euros(!). But instead we paid a bit more to stay at the Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower. And we had a good reason for that.
Apart from the many hotels we wanted to visit in Las Vegas –which I will tell you more about soon – we also wanted to go up the Stratosphere Tower to have a view over this desert city. A ticket up that tower costs 20 dollars, which compared to their hotels prices is quite expensive. We wanted to see it by night, but also by day if possible, so for both of us that would have cost us 80 dollars. A bit too much in my opinion.
But if you have a room in the Stratosphere Hotel you are allowed to go up that tower as many times as you like. So we paid about 60 dollars for our room and had unlimited access to the tower. Seems like a pretty nice deal.
Up the Stratosphere Tower you have more than just the observation deck. For the dare devils there are three thrill rides which do seem a bit scary. Of course there are also quite pricy and not included in the tower access fee or the hotel room fee. So we happily skipped those after watching a few people scream at the top of their lungs.
Our room wasn’t actually in the tower, as there aren’t any rooms there for as far as I know. It was a very clean room with two nice queen-size beds. For what we paid, this was definitely a really great deal.
Just like every hotel in Las Vegas, The Stratosphere Hotel also has a casino on the ground level. And you simply can’t go to Las Vegas without gambling. So we did. It took us a long time to locate the fruit machines (which were the only ones we were familiar with) and get ourselves settled. I guess we easily gave ourselves away as rookies. We only played for five dollars, and at one point I even had seven and a half dollars (yay!), but after half an hour all was gone (Nay). But it was great fun. Gambling doesn’t always have to cost you a lot of money.
The only downside of this hotel, is that it’s in the middle of the strip, which means away from all the big hotels such as the Venetian, New York New York and Luxor, and also away from The Fremont Street Experience. For us this wasn’t such a big deal as we had our car at our disposal. You can simply park at any hotel along the strip, so we just drove to the more busy part of the strip and parked underneath The Palazzo before walking the rest of the strip along the many hotels of Las Vegas. But more about that soon.
I had a very pleasant stay at the Stratosphere Casino, Hotel and Tower. It was very good value for money and the unlimited access to the Observation Deck is a very big plus.
For more info, you can check the website of the hotel and don’t hesitate to ask any questions.
